Self Portrait

1964

Oil on Board

61cm x 46cm

This self portrait was painted when I was an 18 year old art student on the NDD Course at Twickenham College of Art. Painted at my home in Ealing, it was inspired by Rembrandt’s self portraits and Turners use of yellow to express light. At Twickenham, we were taught life drawing and painting by Ms Cheek. Her encouragement contributed to my decision in 1965, to study for a degree in Fine Art at Liverpool College of Art.
