Erotic and religious symbols, both female and male, are found in much sacred ancient art. ‘Ascending Symbol’ is a feminist abstract work which reveals ‘male’ symbols in the form of genitalia and also an ‘ascending’ symbol which suggests a metaphysical or spiritual connection between sexual penetration and ‘transcendental’ church architecture.
